Verse/Chorus

Almost all pop songs follow the same format. 

Everything from classic R&B to the music on top of the charts today leverage the power of the Verse/Chorus form. 

The main section of the song is the chorus, sometimes referred to as a hook. Usually, it’s the most catchy part of the song and if there are lyrics, they are the same each time it happens.

Each new verse, on the other hand, has different words, allowing the singer or rapper to tell more of the story. Almost always, the energy is lower and the tension grows so when the chorus comes back, you’re like “WOAH!” 

Pop songwriting can be super sophisticated. There are other parts of songs like intros, bridges, pre-choruses, and more. But, almost all pop songs still revolve around the repetition of the chorus with other materials adding depth and anticipation along the way.
