Detecting Changes and Repetition

Map out a song's sections by ear using timestamps and letters.

Activity

Directions:

Pick any piece of music you like and get it ready to play. Then, get a document out and write down the name of the song. Every time you hear the song move into a new section, write down the time stamp.

Once you’ve written down all the timestamps, listen through the song again and try to determine which parts are the same and which ones are different. Label the different parts with letters. You’ll need to pay attention to more than just lyrics! Watch the demonstration video to see how it’s done.
