Follow along step by step to complete the exercise at your own pace.

  1. Select the “Bass” track and double-click an empty clip slot to create a MIDI Clip.

  2. Write a bass part.

  3. Play with the ADSR envelope to shape the volume over time.

  4. Move to the “Chord” track and create a new MIDI Clip.

  5. Write a chord part.

  6. Use the Fade In and Fade Out controls to shape the chord’s attack and release.

  7. Move to the “Drum” track and create a MIDI Clip.

  8. Select the Slice By setting: Transient, Beat, Region, or Manual.

  9. Write a part for the drums by triggering different slices.

  10. Arrange the slices to create your drum beat.

  11. Make adjustments and arrange your clips out in Arrangement View.

  12. Save your work! Cmd+S (Mac) / Ctrl+S (Windows)
