Step-By-Step

Follow along step by step to complete the exercise at your own pace.

  1. Press play and listen to the mix.

  2. Navigate to the Chords track and notice how it’s distorted and overwhelming the rest of the mix.

  3. Look at the signal path following the “Celeste” instrument: DelaySaturatorMain.

  4. Bypass the Saturator effect to clean it up.

  5. Navigate to the Drum group next and bring the volume faders all the way down.

  6. Starting with the kick, slowly bring up each fader until it’s sitting at a good level.

  7. Raise the Melody track’s volume fader carefully to blend with the rest of the sounds.

  8. Check the Sends: Solo each Return track to understand what the Reverb and Delay effects are contributing.

  9. Watch your Main track meter and make sure your overall mix stays under 0dB.
