Step-By-Step

Follow along step by step to complete the exercise at your own pace.

  1. Create a new 1 Bar long MIDI Clip on the Kick Track and loop it.

  2. Write in a kick pattern.

  3. Open up the FX Panel, select the “Sub Osc” effect like L.Dre did, or choose another effect and adjust it to how you see fit.

  4. Create a new MIDI Clip on the Snare Track.

  5. Write in a snare pattern.

  6. Open up the FX Panel, select the “Stretch” effect like L.Dre did, or choose another effect and adjust it to how you see fit.

  7. Create a new MIDI Clip on the Hi-Hat Track.

  8. Write in a hi-hat pattern.

  9. Adjust the Hold and Decay envelope parameters to tighten it up.

  10. Create a new MIDI Clip on the Top Loop Track.

  11. Write in a top loop pattern.

  12. Listen back to everything and refine it so all your parts are working together.

  13. Save your work! Cmd+S (Mac) / Ctrl+S (Windows)
