Grimes’ Artificial Intelligence Voice Model
As discussed in Hannah’s interview, the forward-thinking artist Grimes collaborated with CREATESAFE to create an AI model of her voice called Elf.Tech. Artists can create music using her voice and are bound by a 50/50 revenue-sharing agreement. By granting permission upfront, Grimes retains control over her likeness while ensuring compensation for its use. And in contrast to existing murky systems like Uniport, Daouda Leonard and the team at CREATESAFE built a simple portal to handle the payments.
Elf.Tech is a piece of art all on its own, addressing issues of ownership, consent, and licensing when AI-generated music uses a person’s voice or creative identity.
