Reflection: Jenna Kon’s Interview
Reflect on what Jenna's interview taught you about music law.
Reflection
After watching Jenna’s interview, please reflect on what you’ve learned about music law. We encourage you to discuss what was meaningful for you, but if you need help getting started, see below for some prompts to get the reflection ball rolling:
A music attorney is a critical part of a producer’s team, as central as a manager or booking agent.
Attorneys are the main protective force for a person generating intellectual property.
Every deal has to do with copyright.
Do not sign anything without a lawyer looking at it first.
Everyone is looking for the artists and producers who are “next up,” so don’t be shy about asking for favors in the beginning. If you’re the next big thing, they need to find you just as much as you need to be found.
Don’t believe anything that anybody tells you. Have multiple conversations with multiple people.
