Elementary recording is either whole-class or small-group, but always teacher-driven. This structure makes recording a lot easier than student-driven, individual recording models, but still has elements that must be carefully considered.
The rotation model
Set up one recording station (a quieter corner, a divider, one device on a stand).
Rotate small groups through it while the rest of the class works on other phases — drawing their plan, practicing lines, or listening back.
The teacher drives setup: you start and stop the recording, the students focus on speaking.
Managing a whole class recording
Rehearse before you record. Groups practice their turns out loud first; recording is the “clean take" of something they've already said.
Keep takes short. 2–4 minutes per group. Short is better at this age and far easier to edit.
Give the waiting groups a real job. a planning organizer, a listening task, or rehearsing. Idle time is where classroom management goes sideways.
One consistent signal (a hand raise, a light) for "we're recording, voices off" so the room protects the station.
