Podcasting isn't a music or media add-on — it's a composition method that carries the thinking work of almost any subject. The prompts map onto content areas with no retooling; you're just swapping the topic.

The two sets don't mirror each other exactly. Debate and Advice Hotline are elementary-only — at middle and high school, Hot Take carries the persuasive work and Peer Interview carries the community work.
What each subject actually gets out of it
ELA is the natural home. Turning prose into a script is comprehension and writing work in the same move, and reading it aloud is fluency practice with a real audience attached. Scripting and revision are the writing standards; audience and voice are the craft standards.
Social Studies turns research into storytelling. Students organize a timeline, argue from evidence, and — in the Time Machine prompts — have to decide what a person from another era would have cared about, which is historical thinking wearing a costume.
Science rewards precision. Explaining a process out loud exposes gaps in understanding that a diagram can hide, and recording an experiment is a real science-communication skill. Prove It is Claim–Evidence–Reasoning in audio form, and it has a science mode where the class investigates first and the episode reports the evidence.
Math benefits most from the thing podcasting does best: students explaining reasoning aloud. Misconceptions surface in thirty seconds of talk that a worksheet can hide for a week.
CTE / Career connects straight to real workplaces. Ask an Expert and Business Interview put students in contact with actual practitioners and produce primary-source audio.
SEL / Advisory builds listening and empathy, and the interview prompts require students to be genuinely curious about another person — which is harder and more valuable than it sounds.
The universal adapters
Two prompts in each tool work in any subject, so a teacher who learns those can run this anywhere:
Elementary: Prove It — swap the claim; it ships with Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA examples. And Ask an Expert — swap the guest.
MS/HS: How It Works — swap the process. And The Breakdown — swap the media, which can be a text, a video, a song, or a primary source.
If you're piloting podcasting in a non-ELA class, start with one of these four.
Choosing across subjects
Start from your content goal, then pick the intent that matches it — Persuade for argumentation, Inform for research and explanation, Reflect or Connect for community — and choose a prompt carrying that intent. The audio format is the constant; the subject is the variable.
The shared literacy win. Whatever the subject, students do the same underlying work: figure out who they're talking to, organize a line of reasoning, say it clearly, and revise it. That transfers to every class they walk into.
