Pacing Guidelines

Flexible Pacing between 8-16 weeks

Unlike the full Music Production 1 curriculum that follows a prescribed path from the beginning to the end of the school year, Intro allows for flexibility with implementation time. See below for our recommended list of assignments to include.

Guiding Principles

1. Do less, but go deeper

   1. Don’t try to cover the whole curriculum in 8 weeks. It’s better to do fewer assignments and follow the guidance outlined in the principles below than to try and cover everything.

2. Student work time is the most important part

   1. As described in the Project-Based Learning teacher resources, students need time to work on their projects in class. Being creative is the most important part of a creative classroom.

3. Listening parties are a must

   1. Students must come together to share their work. If they’re just turning in their work to the teacher, the creative community will not be able to fully form.

4. Don’t skip the final project

   1. No matter how long you’re teaching the curriculum, students should complete a final project in the last week or two of the class. Don’t skip this important opportunity for students to make an artistic statement that is entirely their own.
